How to insert a chart in PowerPoint, change it, and remove it

Adding a chart to a slide in Microsoft PowerPoint can improve the presentation's visual appeal. A chart helps to illustrate data by displaying trends or changes in data over time and thus aiding in the explanation of an important topic in the presentation.

Add a chart to a PowerPoint slide

Follow the steps below to add a chart to a slide in your PowerPoint presentation.
  •  Launch a new or previously saved PowerPoint presentation.
  • Navigate to the slide that a chart should be added to.
  • Click anywhere on that slide, then click the Insert tab and select Chart from the Ribbon.
  • Select the type of chart you want to add in the Insert Chart window, then click OK.
  • The selected chart type is added to your slide, along with sample data. The data used to create the chart is shown in the Chart in Microsoft PowerPoint window, which resembles an Excel spreadsheet. Add your chart data to that window and, if necessary, change the names of the data points.
  • You can alter the chart data and data point names as necessary by opening the Chart in Microsoft PowerPoint.
  • Click the Chart Title text in the chart and replace it with a more meaningful title for your chart. If you do not want a title displayed, you can also delete the Chart Title text.

Modify a chart in a PowerPoint slide

  • To delete a chart from a PowerPoint presentation slide, follow the instructions below.
  • Open an existing PowerPoint presentation, navigate to the slide that contains the chart, and then click it to select it.
  •  Click the Chart Design tab in the Ribbon, then the Edit Data option.
  • The Chart in Microsoft PowerPoint opens, allowing you to change the chart data and data point names as needed. The chart in the slide is automatically updated as you change the data.
  •  To change the chart's title, click the chart title text and make your changes. If you don't want a title displayed, you can also delete it.
