Power Point Action Button

Introduction

Another tool for linking to a website, file, email address, or slide is an action button. Action buttons are built-in shapes that you can add to a presentation and configure to link to another slide, play a sound, or do something similar.

To add a button for action to a single slide

  • Select the Insert tab.
  • In the Illustrations group, select the Shapes command. A drop-down menu will appear, with action buttons at the bottom.
  • Click on the desired action button.
  •  Click the desired location on the slide to insert the button. The Action Settings dialogue box will be displayed.
Select Mouse Click or Mouse Over from the menu.When the Mouse Click tab is selected, the action button will only perform its function when clicked. When you select the Mouse Over tab, the action button will perform its action when you move the mouse over it.
  • Select Hyperlink to: in the Action on click section, then click the drop-down arrow and select an option from the menu.
  •  If you want a sound to play when the action button is clicked, check the Play Sound box. Choose a sound from the drop-down menu, or click Other to use a sound file on your computer. When finished, click OK.

On each slide, add an action button like follows

If you want to add an action button to each slide, you can use the Slide Master view feature. However, if you've never used Slide Master view before, it can be challenging. If you're going to edit your slides in this manner, you should first go over our Slide Master View lesson.
Select the View tab.
Click the Slide Master command in the Master Views group. Scroll up and select the first slide from the left navigation pane.
Select an action button from the Shapes menu at the bottom of the Insert tab. To add the action button, click on the slide and select the desired options from the dialogue box that appears.
Return to the Slide Master tab and press the Close Master View button. Every slide will now have the new action button.
  • To edit, move, or delete an action button added in this manner, go to the View tab and then Slide Master. After making any necessary changes, click Close Master View.
  • I If you notice that an action button is missing on certain slides, uncheck the Hide Background Graphics box.

To test an action button

You should test your action button after you've created it.
Select the Slide Show option. In the group labelled Start Slide Show, click From Current Slide.
Press the action button.
When you're finished testing it, right-click anywhere on the screen and choose End Show. If your action button did not function properly, follow the instructions below to modify it.

To edit an action button

  • Click on the action button.
  •  Select the Insert tab.
  •  In the Links section, select the Action command. The Actions Settings dialogue box will be displayed.
  •   Make changes to the action or hyperlink, then click OK.

To alter an action button's appearance

  •  Select the action button.
  • Select the Format option.
  • To change the button style or color, use the Shape Styles group's tools.
  • In the Insert Shapes group, click Edit Shape to change the shape of the action button. From the drop-down menu, choose a new shape.
